Tips For Travelling With A Baby!

Hello Everyone,

What a trip to Portugal and one I’ll remember for a lifetime!

When I was away I received so many messages about travelling with a baby from fellow mum’s like me who hadn’t a clue where to start ๐Ÿ™Š I literally just done my own thing and in fairness things went smoothly ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I’ll break it down into stages so you guys can scroll over bits if you are not interested.

( Harry living the dream ๐Ÿ‘†)

We decided to stay in the same apartments we did two years previous called Mirachoro. They are perfect and situated close to new town Alburfeira. If we were to stay again in this area I would pick the Juipter hotel which is a new hotel just beside this and it’s amazing for both adults and children. It’s very handy to have a sink, kettle, microwave etc when travelling with a baby.

The big question what to bring? In your head your actually thinking everything but the kitchen sink but you just have to say to yourself calm down ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Food- Harry is lactose intolerant so I had to bring his formula for bottles that was certain (FYI I was nervous about this so I emailed Dublin Airport to check & they said there was no restrictions. For security you just need to tell them and they can any pre made bottles or water ). I also brought some of his snack taytos and dinner pouches. To be honest he ate one of the pouches I brought as he wouldn’t normally eat packet food. We found most staff in restaurants very accommodating and Harry was more than thrilled to eat little bits. A little tip if you want to give them a snack maybe fruit buy it from the supermarket yourself they don’t mind you feeding them in the restaurants and it’s alot cheaper.

Cloths- I brought 10 outfits (shorts & t-shirts/vests) ,5 bibs, 3 sleepsuits, 3 swimsuits, 1 sun hat and socks. We had plenty of cloths for our full trip.

Toys- I brought a few bits for the plane / apartment a book, some animals, bedtime teddy and cloth comforter. (He’s built up his collection since he arrived ๐Ÿ˜‚ )

I brought 60 nappies, 1 pack of swimming nappies , 2 packs of wipes, 1 bottle of calpol , 1 travel size shampoo, sudocream and powder with us. (FYI swimming nappies are not water proof ๐Ÿคจ We found out the hard way ๐Ÿคฃ)

Nappies etc are quite expensive in Portugal so I would highly recommend packing some for your trip. I had to buy one pack of baby wipes and they were almost โ‚ฌ6 YIKES!!

I brought 1 roll on spf and 1 cream spf for Harry both were excellent but for handyness the roll on one was excellent.

I brought 1 blanket as it gets very windy in the evenings in Portugal.

We didn’t bring a steraliser on our trip. I literally washed Harry’s bottles then steamed them in boiling water. We used bottled water then to mix with his formula.

How many bags did we bring?

We brought two carry on bags, harry’s changing bag and my handbag. We didn’t check in a case as we didn’t need one everything fitted in our hand luggage. Aer Lingus are great and usually take the hand luggage when you check in which leaves the airport experience alot more comfortable.

I really wanted a stroller that folded up tiny into a carry bag but when I went to order it , it was sold out. We decided to go with a different one Chicco Echo Stroller but it honestly was just as handy and folded down easily. It also has storage underneath which is a must. I purchased this from Boots online and had it within two days. Here’s the link – Chicco stroller . They took it at the flight door which is super handy.

How did we manage with naps etc?

I loved this stroller as it has a lying down , slightly tilted or sitting up option which is so handy. Harry literally stuck to his normal routine which was great so we could go about with our plans.

How did Harry cope with the heat?

We had no issues at all thankfully. He actually loved it. Been honest you just really need to be careful and you won’t have any issues. Things I find helped ๐Ÿ‘‡

– sun hat

– sun block reapply quite often

– We stopped in different places if we were out for the day to give harry extra shade to cool off and play

– make sure your stroller has a shade option

– plenty of fluids

The Flight

I didn’t realise if you have a baby/small children you get priority boarding ๐Ÿค— They announce it before they board anyone. Flying to Portugal ๐Ÿ™Š okay Harry was due to sleep as he didn’t nap in the airport so he was getting a little cranky. He was so good taking off and was so excited to look out the window BUT about 20 minutes in I kid you not he roared the plane down. I mean the ultimate tantrum ๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š I kept calm and just went with it after a rough 10 minutes he conked out and slept for the rest of the flight. Not to bad eh? ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฃ We have all been on flights where a baby cried right so don’t sweat ๐Ÿคฃ On the way back it was a late flight so I presumed he would sleep ๐Ÿคช but he played for the full flight and was really good ๐Ÿ™

Overall it was a really enjoyable relaxing experience with memorises we will have for a lifetime.

I hope my post was helpful if your planning a family break away this year. If you have any questions I may not have answered please DM me on Instagram and I will get back to you.
